Many people just buy dark elixir with gems because they are not able to get it or really want it without training hard core troops to get it. Now lets consider this - light spells - BAM. It may seem noob to many people but the way I see it is the. What is faster, lets say you are in the 1500-1700 trophy league and need dark elixir (also works in other league that you find a descent amount of dark elixir in). The most common one is level 4 lightning witch is the one I will use in the example, obviously the high the more bang you get for you buck. Each level 4 does 390 damage, you will be dropping the on dark elixir storage's, lets say you only do 340 damage. Topically you would like to attack a dark elixir storage level 3 with 1,500 or more dark elixir (each level you go up in storage you will want to get it with 500 more dark elixir). Now what you want to do is instantly train light spells instead of buying dark, is the beneficial, lets do the math!The ends justify the means
We are taking this for example, you have 3 level 4 lightning spells (typical for th 7 and 8) and you are attacking someone with a dark elix storage level 3 with 2,000 dark elixir [Almost or all of it should be in storage]. You drop 3 of them on there each do 340 damage.
-Math Time-
340 x 3 = 1020 damage
With the new update a level 3 dark elixir storage has 2400 hit points . Lets find out how much percent that is!
1020 / 2400 = 0.425 = 42.5% damage
You will usually get somewhere around there. Now lets find out how much dark elixir you got if you are at the same town hall level
2,000 x 0.425 = 850 dark elixir
Now that cost you 3 lightning spell, boosting lightning spell costs 20 gems per boost that makes a total of 60 gems. Now lets use the wiki to see how much dark elixir we can actually buy for 60 gems (To find out using wiki search gems and click the first one, the calculator is at the bottom of the article, may take a while to load). Now to buy 850 dark elixir you need to use 108 gems. You can buy 419 dark elixir with 60 gems. That is a total difference of 431 dark elixir. That is a difference of almost 50%.
