This is an edit of my original thread that had a bunch of comments with flaws. I've re-written the idea below in more precise detail and added balancing features to the spell to reduce its overpowered potential.

The shield spell would more likely be a non-DE spell factory spell based on its nature. The spell is an attacking spell, and it places a shield-like-dome in a radius from the point it was placed. It has a certain time limit and health. Depending on balancing, time of shield duration and health of spell could be upgraded in a laboratory.
If your troops are inside the shield-like-dome they can move in and out of it (halved speed when they enter/exit the circumference of the dome). Ranged troops can fire out of the shield at a slight reduced damage as the projectiles would be slower. This is to prevent the spell being too OP with 5 of them maybe.
The essential part of this spell is that any defenses outside of the shield-like-dome are still able to lock on to your troops. The defenses must wait for your troops to exit the shield, or the shield to run out/die of HP before the damage is applied to your troops. The catch to this spell is that if you place this spell with a defense inside of the spell, the defense can damage your troops as it is inside the shield spell. It can also fire outside the shield spell with no reduced damage unlike your troops (otherwise this shield would be used to make defenses weaker around the base).
Clarification to the spell
Traps such as air mines or air bombs can also still target troops. however if the targeted troop is inside the shield the traps will still damage the shield, not the troop
Defenses such as the tesla or wizard tower could have stronger damage to the shield to help with balancing
To summarize:
Shield spell has limited HP and time duration
Onced placed, creates a shield-like dome in a radius (N/A radius)
Troops halved speed entering/exiting shield-like-dome
Troops can fire out of dome with a slight reduced dmg
Defenses can target troops inside of dome but damage dome before it can attack troops
When dome is gone or targeted troop leaves dome it takes the dmg
Defenses inside the dome act like normal (unaffected)
