The air game is a mess.
I can see where Supercell was going with the recent updates: steadily buff every air troop except for the dragon(Lava hounds, Healer trap immunity), and then bring down a resounding nerf on all air troops (air sweeper). This effectively nerfs mass drag.
Mass drag was balanced enough at th8. It's like a hog raid - only effective on tight bases, so if you want to defend against mass drag, build a slightly-more spread base.
Mass drag at Town Hall 7 was the problem. Ridiculously powerful with the small base and 2 air defenses. Bringing 3 lightning makes mass drag much more powerful - you can easily destroy about half of the enemy's defensive air firepower before deploying 10 dragons.
The solution to this is not to nerf mass drag, but simply to make Town Hall 7 bases more effective against air raids. I would suggest unlocking 2 air defenses at Town Hall 7. This makes sense in my eyes - unlock the most powerful air troop, and in return, make the air game very hard to get by.
