How does attacking work exactly? I thought that you can attack people in the same league as you but I'm getting attacked by people in higher leagues. How does it work exactly?

You get attacked by people with the Same amount of trophies as you which is ussualy your league but the thing with leagues it that once your in a league you can go 100 trophies below the requirement of that league before you ate demoted

League has nothing to do with who gets chosen for opponents, it's just any eligible player near your trophy level. SC has never disclosed hard numbers on exactly what the formula is for how many trophies you gain/lose or how close you have to be to someone to get matched.
leagues really have nothing to do with choosing a match but to answer your question the person probably attacked you when he was at the same trophy level then you then gained 100 trophies to go to 2800
