on my 2nd acct, I did a brief 9.5 stint due to the highlighted portion of the quoted text above.
I did my CC right away as my first upgrade for gold. to me this made the most economical sense of my builder time.
Did the Lab n SF. once those finished I started my Freeze to L3 then did the Lavas, Minions and Golems while I grinded for 3rd drill, n Camps (3 days on max Golems) Ill get my freeze to max then start on Arch/Wiz/Giants/Barbs... kept builders busy on traps and new pumps, new turrets..
as addressed, the main problem is the regular matchmaking. since you have to basically fill your storages to do almost all of the upgrades in TH 10, you are a HUGE target! and at a disadvantage if you don't have the new X-Bow and ITs to protect the loot you need to acquire and KEEP to some extent. (my schedule did not allow me to raid much more than 800k-1.5 Mil a day)
matchmaking goes both ways, so all is not lost. You get matched up against the premie and .5 10s as well. but if you don't have ITs you will have a much harder time holding loot in the new matchmaking. Mature 10 will trounce you for your loot cap if you don't have the best tools in your shed. (Mature 9s can loot you good too IMO) To me a few wars at a disadvantage were worth the ITs in the regular matchmaking arena, as Wars are now an optional deal anyhow. so you can sit out a few Wars or a few weeks until you are ready to play competitively. (the new TH 'skin' is always tough to grow into. shedding the old husk is a transitional nightmare in TH9 and esp 10 when you need to adjust to loot penalty and still are TH9 with a higher ceiling).
War is optional, regular arena is not.
