I do donate dragons to clanmates when possible (i.e., 20 housing space) as I am overflowing with elixir as I wait for th7 defense to finish.

I have been attacking with full dragon army but it appears that the only base that my army has a decent chance is if not more than one AD is in the inner base (i.e., I attack bases that AD on the outside or behind first layer wall where dragons can get attack AD first). I had to pass up on a few 600K+ bases (300+ gold and/or elixir) as a couple of AD is buried within the center of the base.

I remember one attack: I took on TH8 with two level 4 AD and the third was being upgraded and got 68%. Is this good? I was able to get all the elixir (265K) and gold (base didn't have that much) but failed to get dark elixir which had over 1K.

Most recently, I incorporated balloons into the mix to attack AD while using dragons as meat shield. This has produced better results for attacking AD that are placed in the second layer of a base.

With keeping the "fly army" theme, I am going to try to include minions. How should use these guys? Should I keep both dragons and balloons with minion or go with dragons/minion combo?

Does anyone have thoughts on how to use minions as part of dragon or dragon/balloon army?

You could try using the dragons as a meat shield, but as such they are very expensive. Minions are cheap and can do lots of damage, but they are also very weak against any kind of air defense (archers, wizards, and especially air defenses) I think a ground troop / air combo is the best.

sometimes i use 8 dragons, 40 archers, and three lightning spells.

I use the lightning spells to destroy an air defense inside (if needed). LVL 4 lightning spells won't completely destroy air defenses lvl 2+ if you use less than 3, i tried

i use the archers to clear out any exterior buildings so the dragons dont get distracted. Once they clear out as much as they can, send in the dragons one at a time, and spread them out so they dont take much splash damage.

Using this strategy, I've 100% bases with 3000+ DE and 400k gold/elixir. It's also pretty fun to use

Finally, this army can be pretty expensive and takes long to train, about an hour and a half. the cost of the army ranges from 200k elixir to 300k-ish, depending on what level your troops are. keep in mind that the spells cost a good amount of gold, too.

    Well, that was a mouthful...

LOL. Yeah, dumping them work most of the time; I do this if bases are "easy." This may be my problem here...I am going for bases that have higher defenses. It will be hard to pass up huge loots (300K gold, 300K elixir and 1000 DE); I see this and I want and I don't care if the base's AD is level 5 with max WT or AT. It is time to change my mentality and to just focus on "easy" bases.

I am glad I have surplus in elixir to continue to build this "flying" army; win or lose, it sure is fun.

I was a TH 7 at nearly 2000 trophies "farming" with dragons. I was able to tackle bases with LvL 4 or 5 AD. Though I still passed up some 600K loot boxes. To be successful you need to be able to take out the 2 AD on a particular side of the base and do so without significantly splitting up the dragons. With high LvL AD you don't want your dragons spread around, as this results in the dragons getting thinned out too fast. Sending in squads of 5-8 minions to attack just AD once dragons have cleared a path works well.

Then just make sure the base is the kind that after you take the 2 AD's out on one side of the base you can get at the loot without triggering the other 2 AD or you have a pocket of 20 minions and unload them all at once at a "vault." If no wizard tower is cover the central vault then minions can make short work once dragons clear a path.

Thanks for the tips...I will definitely incorporate these in my attacks. I was able to do a trophy push from mid-1300s to 1700 with dragons and balloons (the push was so that I can farm DE with a farming army).

20 minions where mentioned; is the rest of the army dragons?
