They are TH10 not TH8 and yeah their base is crazy strong.
This has always seems like a selfish and stupid thing to do to someone trying to give you a free shield. Selfish because you're saying you want them to spend more time waiting for troops because you wanted it slightly easier if they actually attack you. And stupid because they are more likely to actually raid or zapp you so you actually lose more resources in the end.

If I have my queen, I drop it first anyways, cuz I just use royal cloak. If I see teslas pop up, just put down 2 or 4 giants, followed be a couple barbs and archers. If I have my king, I always just check first, unless they made it clear that their TH is untrapped (decorations, non-defensive buildings, etc.)
