Let me see if I understand this. Child demotes classmate. Parents meddle and force child to reinstate classmate. Friends react by forming new clan without child whose parents meddled in the game. Is that right?

Meddling in a clan rank structure of an online game takes helicopter parenting to a whole new level. Do these parents supervise picking teams at recess?

I downloaded this game at the request of my boys and I thought it would be a nice way to bond with them. One year later, my 13-yr-old has stopped playing while my 11-yr-old plays only casually and usually at my request. Meanwhile, I remain so addicted that I'm actually on a Clash of Clans forum! I'm 46.

Yeah,, and if you remember the whole craze before with Tamiya racing cars? Mini 4 wheel drives?

That was a hit when I was like 10,. But later on my dad was the one who does all the racing and designs all the cars,,, I wasn't even allowed to touch them or else I might ruin its "setup"

really? where has the world gotten into? Parents don't know how to raise boys anymore, see that one who said that a "bullying" has taken place? That's just stupid.
Well, the concept of masculinity (and, really, gender identity itself) has evolved over time.
Its ok to be an agressive biosex female or a dainty biosex male.

Certianly, you can raise your offspring in the manner you see fit, but don't expect anyone else to.

You would think the article would be about why the game is so popular, or the rise to success of Supercell. But no, we have to go down the cyber-bullying road. Good grief.

At some point, people need to learn that there will be some people in the world that like them, and some people that will not like them. Might as well figure it out at a young age. And if you're going to not play nice, you should expect others to not play nice with you. Toughen up, kiddos, and welcome to the real world.

It's not like we're talking about racial segregation here. We're talking about a game played on cell phones and tablets.

Yeah and they will put you in NY TIMES??

My point is that this whole

    "bullying"

thing is just stupid. For the reasons that I stated above.

And yes gender-views change but GENDER itself and its nature do not! Common sense also do not change and teaching kids about dealing with "actual bullies" DO NOT CHANGE. Now I dont mid that other kids are disadvantaged by society's influence, abd their parents' ignorance, but its just sad.

And institutions like this are really really nonsensical. Its just so much Koolaid going on with these

When I read the tittle I thought it would be about the filth in global.

i really don't see this a bullying, sounds like over parenting.

Additionally, it appears as if the boy mistreated his clanmates and as such they moved on.

Yes I am 15 and a few years ago when I was in elementary teachers would come out sometimes to supervise team pickings. It ridiculous. And then they had to be referees. *playing soccer and someone falls down* STOP THE GAME!! Are you hurt?! Penalty! Umm, he just tripped. I don't care! We need to make him feel better so he gets a free kick!

Wish I could have been a kid in the previous generation....,..

Hahaha I remember when I was a kid.. a teacher got sick of us because we were out of control, (his name is Sir Mar). He told us
"Alright! No lunch time break for you all!"

    Everyone was ♥♥♥♥♥♥!

    Then he said
"It's Aj's fault you get no lunch break" lollzlzl
off course everyone just went crazy after that, and went for AJ, the tallest kid, just like how boys are supposed to - it wasnt fair for AJ but everyone just laughed it off including the teacher. after that everyone ran off to lunch including Aj - no one complained. This was Decades ago.

“The thing I’ve found with Clash of Clans is that because of the hierarchical structure, you have another possibility of excluding, or of creating, a great bond with friends,” Mr. Rosenthal said. “The positive is that you can learn about technology in a relatively safe manner as you can only chat with people in your clan, and it teaches building and strategy. The bad side is that it can allow kids to overtly enforce, and create, very hierarchical bullying.”
You've got to be kidding me. "Overtly enforce and create very hierarchical bullying"

If I don't want someone in my clan, I should have the right to exclude them. And if I feel like someone doesn't deserve their rank, I should have the right to demote them.

And about the Prison experiment, it's not like leaving someone out of a clan causes extreme psychological torture.

My advice: Learn about something before you put it on NY times
