Let's introduce an old mythology concept, the 2 headed dragon! Paint him gold and give him 2 fire breathing heads. He can keep the fire eyes, but increase damage output as with all upgrades. Catch is that with 2 heads, the over all damage is now placed 2 directions. Dragon may have a rating of 500 damage per second but now it's split to 2 heads so the 500 splits as well.
