Supercell can't realistically mess around with gem costs. Actually, they got a bit of flak from adjusting prices so that they met some of the international contry's tax requirments. Some players in those countries just flipped out.
If they reduce the price, then SC is stuck at keeping that price, unless it was an already stated limited time sale. It is like carving or widdling. They can easily widdle down the price, but it is very hard to uncut thier prices due to playerbase reaction.

If people stopped buying gems, then they would reduce in price... supply and demand
Yea and while they're at it, they should give everyone maxed th10s and +5000 trophies each week and erase the troops timers and cost and make everything free and give everyone the #1 spot in global.
