We have all had our share of the win one/lose 39 options provided to us.
However I don't think it works like this. I was recently attacked by someone who gained one star. I lost, and therefore he was awarded 16 trophies. For one star. Which means he had the potential to win 48 trophies with a perfect victory. Based on Supercell's explanation when I looked at his village I expected to see someone with far fewer trophies than me. I was very surprised to find out that my attacker was within about 25 trophies from me.
Given what we think we know about the system how is it that he attacked me with pretty much the same number of trophies and was offered 48 for a perfect victory. Wouldn't 20 have been his maximum?
