In war our TH8 and TH9 players are stuck on dragons.. And they just can't 3 star a well laid out base at those levels depending on the air defenses levels.. My question is for a TH8 player with max loons, drags, wiz, barb, arch, giant, and lvl 1 golem, pekka, and hogs what are the strongest attacks? goWiPe vs GoVaWi? Dragloon? I have lvl9 BK.
try lv4 hogs...really effective...

As a long time TH8, I found the following attacks the best:
- Pretty much anything with hogs (GoHo, HoLo, HoDrag)
- GoWiPe
- Dragoon\DragLoon (dragons and Loons)
You can see from the my channel videos below, that is what I normally used to 3 star all the way through my TH8 adventure in clan wars

There are many forms of dragon attacks and they all have merits for specific bases. I would seldom, if ever, go 11 drags though... Almost always add loons (this is a guideline, as many others can do well with all drags, I just don't recommend it)
In any case, I believe that drags/dragloon CAN 3-star higher end TH8 bases (e.g. AD666 & such), but it's dicey. I fully agree with Wryhorn that AD666 more often than not means look to the ground (not a hard rule, but a preference).
Note that, if the base permits, Dragon Snipe is always a good option and I'll go to that above any other attack, bar none. If you snipe the ADs, you've got a 3-star with relative ease.
At the moment, hogs are definitely my attack of choice, especially GoWiHo. And I just tried GiHeHo and managed to get a 3-star as well, so that's in the game for me (note that those attacks are very similar in execution).
If the base isn't drag, nor hog, I would look to GoWiPe/GoWiVa as the last resort.

Sure some bases with lvl6 ADs can b 3 starred but I don't care who u are u can't 3 star every TH8 with drags.. I'm just looking for the best ground alternative to dragon attacks.. Not only do the dragons sometimes fail and go completely off course to chase the king around while being shot by ADs but it also grows old using it war after war..
Yes, believe me, many of us have been there. Attacking into a B King can be very nasty. One trick I like to do is engage my B king with his to hold him in place...
I don't think there's any question that the ground alternative is hogs and it isn't even close. I'd even argue that, given the right base, it is far, far stronger than a drag/dragloon attack.
I sympathize. My second attack in our current war was on a TH8 with AD666. I'm pretty comfortable using 105.21, and the base fit the design, but in the few seconds that my balloons went off course and my dragons veered off to chase troops....well, it's a 1-star. I'm a long way off from being able to use GoWiPe, so trying to find a good ground attack myself!
Not everyone can ace with Drags, maybe try out doing ground based attacks such as Hogs, GoWiXX, etc.

Now with the windmill it's going to get harder with all dragons, and air in general. The windmill faces one way and air bombs and ad on other side for obvious reasons.
Dragons were here so easy to stop once everyone kept getting 3*, simple by spreading everything on the outside. Sure you'll get 50% 1* easy but anything past that will be shear luck if your drags fly properly.
I myself elf have been looking for a different method during war. My barracks and dark barracks are going up now, unlocking golems and pekkas so I will attempt the GoWiPe method along with some others. From my understanding, it's rather tough, though. I have heard any run with hogs are significantly harder to 2-3*. Any truth behind this and if so, why?
