I don't know either, but honestly, I'd be afraid to call it anyway...I might get my lost love back, my money problems fixed, family issues resolved, my good fortune told, & find out a blissful fate awaits me...then what would I do will all that free time on my hands?

They do it to increase their status on the search engines. The more places that link to them it appears that they are more legitimate or popular. For instance if all of you loved my now obsolete website and put a link to it everywhere you went, Facebook, your own sites or blogs etc, then if you typed in "bouncing off the walls", my site would come up first. That used to happen when it was used by my students. Now you might get an ad for a bouncy house company or someone who was talking about her kids bouncing on her blog. Etc. anyway. That's why they do it.

What Tiggers said is correct, spamming different forum (particularly those with high traffic like this one) is a trick of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) - an attempt to boost their business.

All these spam threads have one common phone number in their title. It shouldn't be that hard setting up a filter. If vbulletin doesn't have such options, there are plugins that can help.

You can also use hidden form fields to prevent bot registrations.
