So I read around for a bit and couldn't find any other posts addressing this so I figured I'd throw in my idea. If it has addressed already please let me know.
My argument is simple. Heroes are still available defensively during war attacks while upgrading but not for offense. For anyone far enough in the game to have them you know how crippling it can be when your hero is unavailable for offense, and war attacks are all about 2 quality attacks that you want to be at max strength for. Due to this, I've seen lots of clan mates either: not upgrade their heroes, opt out of wars, or struggle in attacks. Part of the balance of clan wars is that what you're upgrading shouldn't affect your clan base, so that it's not detrimental if I have say my xbow upgrading as that makes a big difference in my base. I don't see why this can't apply during the attacks part by allowing upgrading heroes to participate in just clan war attacks. As it stands now players are essentially being punished in clan wars for upgrading their heroes.

I've been thinking the same thing tbh. The whole point of war is so you can have an optimal attack and an optimal defence. The optimal defence bit is sorted, but I think the hero upgrading thing ruins the optimal attack.
