I upgraded my cannons to level 9 first. They're cheap and it gives you time to upgrade your collectors before getting to the more expensive upgrades.

IF YOU WAR - lab, cc, dk barracks, air defense, tesla, traps, drill, walls, point defense
IF YOU DON'T WAR - lab, drill, mortar, wiz tower, then whatever you can afford
Offense is always first, lab, SF and camps. Try to keep a builder on Teslas as much as possible. They take forever and have a couple levels to go through at TH8, same for air defense.
You can't upgrade SF at th8
I always go for the cheapest upgrade first. Someone is always looking to take what you got, so I try to make myself as strong as possible before having to save for more expensive upgrades.
May be controversial but I would say walls for gold and spell factory and lab for elixir. If you do walls first you will never have any gold to steal, once they are done they will make it a lot harder to take the gold you saved for weapons upgrades
I would upgrade walls only until you get your war army to max.

I would make sure to get the new Defenses, as well as the Lab upgraded to get new troops.
Level 10 Barbarian King also helps out, but you don't have to get that right away, especially if you want to upgrade troops like Valkyries or Golems.
