how do you afford wars?

how do people who are in constant war afford to upgrade things that require elixer? it seams to me i have a choice upgrade or war since each war costs me about 1 million elixer

Farm harder. If you don't have the time to do so, opt out of war here and there

farm, farm, farm and farm some more. I can't say I have ever had an issue of choosing between upgrades and war, just need to be active. If its too much for you, there are plenty of clans that war 1-2 times per week, or don't war at all.

Takes me 400-500k per war with gowiwi/gowipe/gowiwipe/lavaloonion.
War loot does make up, but i farm the loot before wars end.

If you are th7 or th8, at some point in time you will have excessive elixir. If you're th9 and th10, the cost in elixir is high because of troop donations. Ask if other members in the clan can help out to share the burden. Anyway, if you win the war, the returns can be high.

Win. If you win you will usually recoup most of your losses. The rest can be farmed.

I mine 1M elixir or close to that per day, so in 48 hours I've paid for whatever war costs including filling up all my clanmates castles. I'm TH10 though so farming is worthless.

And whatever I get at the end of the war also helps.

Clever actually, while so many fuss over bending matchmaking their way, managing/gemming hero upgrades & practice attacking. We just sit back and keep enjoying the relaxed game we once did before Clan Wars existed. By farming.
