My BK was hitting the wall to where I wanted to go but out of no where he went over to the collector..
You must not be pathing correctly. It takes time to learn how to "control" troops like pekkas and witches. I rarely have an issue with them circling. WBs have a pretty basic ai and I learned a lot about them from a youtube video.
As for my opinion, the only thing that will aggravate me is when a giant or golem continues to hit a wall after whatever is behind the wall has been cleared. It usually makes sense why they started to hit it but why not redirect once their initial reason has been cleared? And yes, of course, the archer queen.
Overall, I think the troops are fine. If you want to control your troops as much as possible you must know the troops ai, how to path, and understand the design of the base you are attacking.

It's not a problem when you have lightning available (or manage a lure), but otherwise, AI against enemy CC drives me nuts. Sometimes they'll all flock to kill some random archer then get gobsmacked by a mortar which was previously out of range. The worst is that they concentrate fire on the CC units one at a time.. This is for farming, by the way.

I had these exact problems before. I started dropping my WB a lot slower, they work much better now.
Now, no amount of practice or planning can account for the sheer stupidity of troop behavior once they start chasing some skels which start running all over the base. Pekkas start running circles or breaking thru random walls, so does wizards. It doesn't always happens, but when it happens it is extremely aggravating. It's the randomness which I hate, whatever control I had over the attack just goes out the window. What's the fun in that?
Another aspect I'm starting to seriously dislike is dealing CC troops. Hate how ridiculously long it takes to pull a CC full of archers, and you have to pull all of it, otherwise 2 or 3 wizards at the end could potentially ruin the whole raid. Then while trying to kill them my wizards refuse to shoot and then get killed.I've resorted to bringing one valk specifically to deal with CC troops due to this.
My archers shoot at walls when not needed.
