At TH 8, the bomb requires 1000000 gold to upgrade and takes 1 day, while the giant bomb, also taking 1 day, requires only three quarters of the bomb's price. Why?

Because of levels. A giant bomb was is unlocked at a later town hall while the bomb is met at an early town hall. It does not matter of stats but on levels. If you compare the bomb and giant bomb in the same level, like lvl 3 bomb to lvl 3 giant bomb, you'll see the difference.
