I have 3 DE Drills at 45 per hour. That is:

1,620 DE for my 12 hour shield.

So if people were looking at this "problem" economically, it would take, at least, an equivalent of 294,000 of each back from attacks they could have avoided by having their TH exposed and taking the shield. On top of this, when we are raided, we are losing some loot each time.

I just don't see a way that having a defensive bonus is going to encourage anyone to allow more attacks unless it is a ridiculously high amount of money for a successful defense, which will have people attacking to get rid of their shields so they can get attacked again (as opposed to drawing weak attacks as they are currently doing).

There is no good way to make defense as viable as offence without changing the entire point of the game, and as I have said, why not just let defense be what defense is and always has been in every game, sport or war; a means to protect something, not to gain something.
Youre not going to get a sheild every time. As you go higher in trophys; it doesn't matter where you're townhall is. You're going to get attacked. Say there is no additional loot. You're paying for traps after someone got 49% and ran off with your loot. The cost of traps get higher and higher. So This defense incintive is meant to encourage higher players to not use the exposed townhall. Yes; if you're a max 9 or 10. You won't get attacked as often. But you do get attacked. And you do win defenses. But you're paying for the re arm cost out of pocket.

The idea isn't meant to pay your whole trap cost. Or meant to pay for a revenge. It's simply an Incintive that could add higher level of play to te game and reduce exposed townhalls. Of course there will be players like you who don't feel it's neccecary. But in sure you agree you're not garrrenteed a sheild. So a loot bonus to cover your defense cost will encourage players to have a strong defense since they already will get attacked ethier way.

You also get a sheild at 40% so this sweetens the reward aswell of a free shield.

I guess, and I'm just thinking, that this payout isn't going to change people's rate of exposed town halls drastically. Actually, I was looking through my log here and this would encourage me to put my TH inside when I have little to no loot to gain, but when I am saving up for something and have 3mil or more of one type, I will change it back.

For me (and seemingly mathematically) it wouldn't make sense for me to keep my town hall inside. Weak armies will pass me up, and the only people who will attack are people looking for big loot. My most recent attack (having only just over a mil of each) there was about 170,000k available of each to be stolen. Granted my trophies are very low, but if someone got half of that, I would get a shield, and a bonus (making up for about what I lost). That's a wash. if I have 2 mil of each, that's a loss, 3 mill of each, a big loss. Then there's the chance that I get looted big time and don't get a shield.

In reality, I don't care if something like this is implemented but I really don't think it is going to change the incentive to put my TH inside, and many other people that weigh the cost/benefit ratio.

Ah; you just made the biggest point. When you have no loot. Your townhall is inside right? When you have a lot it it is outside correct? Well if you have a low amount of loot; chances are; you woukd certainly enjoy getting a bit more when funds get low. That is where this idea shines. For the poor. This idea isn't going to benifit the wealthy. Or it wouldn't be put right. The wealthy will place it out like usual. So this doesn't break a system; it improves it and you'll certainly see more trophy defenses with this.

I guess it sounded like the intention of this was to get more people to guard their town halls, but for what purpose?

The only reason it would benefit the game to have more people have guarded town halls is that there would be more people available for attacking (less shields from exposed TH). If the people available for attacking are still only the people with peanuts in their storages it doesn't seem to change anything one way or another.

I mean, if it's implemented, it will change how I play very slightly, nobody will get more loot off of me than they are currently. I will have a guarded town hall for, well probably an overnight (only if I've made a big purchase) before I put it back exposed.

My main worry about these types of posts (and not this one though) is I don't want the game to change from people putting TH out for free shields, to people busting their shields as soon as they get them because being defensive is so profitable.

Oh I agree with you 100%. I don't want the game to change ethier. It's why I linited how often you can get it and didn't use a large chunk of loot. It's not going to change gameplay a lot. But it might very well reduce the exposed townhall's by a small percent. (Not the main focus.)

You can find bases without peanuts irregardless. I've had peopel attack me for 10k (all together) simply for trophys. I clearly was hurting and the fact I had to rearm traps; broke the bank and I was left with little to search with. This would kinda give a player a cushion for when they do need it. Such as when they push; or they just broke the bank on a long upgrade.

Defneses will never be more profitable. It's impossible. I can attack in 6-8 hours and get 2+mil. 1 defense would only generate maybe 100k-200k. So it's not so over powered. I don't want the game to change in a way that will break the system like some ideas will.
