Anyway, on my newest account, a TH4, I pushed my way up to about 800 trophies to find good loot. I didn't want to go higher than that, because, well, I'm only TH4. At the time, I didn't even have wall breakers yet. It's amazing how much you don't even think about walls, until you're a TH4 without wall breakers. All of the sudden, anything more than wooden walls start to look daunting...

Anyway, I parked at 800 trophies, got my upgrades going, got my income up (collectors/mines), and then just stopped raiding. I would sit for hours with no shield. I won like a dozen consecutive raids over the course of 3 days, got pushed all the way up to about 1040 trophies. I only finally lost a raid, because I got raided 3 times last night. The first two raids failed, but cleaned out my CC. The third guy, a TH5 with balloons, finally took me out, because I don't have my AD yet. (Saving the build until my next war.)

To be honest, I was damn proud! Decent base layout, maxed CC with 15 troops space, TH8 troops in the CC, and bam! Got 22 or 23 defense wins in the last week.

Whatever loot I lose, I make up in hours, so I honestly don't care how much loot they take, as long as I win the battles.

On my higher accounts, getting raided gives me mixed reactions. I'm curious to see if they've found a weak spot in my defenses. Even though my TH is in the corner, I know I'll probably get raided when my loot is high enough. So even though I'm hoping for the shield, I still try to keep my defenses strong. When they find exploit a weakness I know about, and am unable to fix at the moment, I get a little bummed out. Nothing I could do but watch the inevitable. When they find a weakness I didn't know was there, I usually at least try to look on the bright side: something I can do to prevent the next raid from being so successful.

I haven't been 3-starred in months on either of my TH7+ accounts. My defenseless account (currently TH7) actually doesn't get 3-starred very often either, which is kinda funny. I don't care when it gets raided, because I know it's bound to happen. Honestly, I'm surprised when people take the TH snipe and move on, and grateful too!

I would like to defend more often, and when I don't have much loot to offer, I put my TH inside. But why would anyone hit my base when I don't have loot to offer? So I usually sit for hours, until my collectors fill up. Most of the collectors are inside walls. Can be reached with archers, but the enemy is going to lose troops to get them, so that weeds out the lower TH attackers.

If I didn't lose more in a raid than I could make up in a raid, I suppose I would be okay with defending. Actually, that gives me an idea. Well, an expansion on an idea I had before. I'll drop that in my next post so it's easier to reply to.
Lucky you, I just get balloon'd. Every. Fricken. Time.

It annoyes me, but if in a good looting spot, I've started to feel about the same way too. But Dark Elixir has always been a resource that I don't want people touching. But they do try of course, and at the worse times too because of how the loot system works. When close to your goal, you are holding more, and therefore a better target to raid for a piece of that stash.

How do I feel about being raided? In regular matchmaking, I have loot on the line, which makes it hard to get excited. But what about in war?

So, my TH7 got 3-starred for the first time in war today. It's been 2-starred and 1-starred in just about every war for the last couple months, but no one seems able to pull the trigger correctly on dragons. "Oh, let me show off and use rage/heal, because triple lightning is such a noob move. Oops, only 2 stars." Or my favorite, "I'm too cheap to use 10 dragons, so I'm going to try to take out the AD's with a bunch of hogs. Oops, giant bomb."

Anyway, someone had already attacked me in this war, using only 5 dragons plus a mix of ground troops, and managed 1 star. So when I checked the war map and saw three white stars above my name, I got excited!

Wow, someone actually 3-starred me! Did they find some defensive weakness I wasn't aware of? Did they expose some flaw that I can fix?

I started the replay, and groaned when I saw 10 level 2 dragons and 3 lightning spells in the troop bar at the bottom. Okay, a real TH7 dragon attack.

I watched, and there really wasn't much I could see to improve my base. He 3x'ed one of my AD's, then dropped the 10 dragons in a line along the side with the other AD, and deployed one from the CC. I had a storage defended by a wizard tower, and sure enough, it tanked the dragons. The AD had those dragons under fire the whole time, as did the wizard tower. Took out 2 dragons, badly injured a third. The wizard tower was injuring multiple dragons because they were clumped up to fight the elixir storage. SAM took out a dragon, air bomb hit several. I mean, my defenses were ripping into those dragons like their lives depended on it.

Sadly, the raid finished with 7 dragons still alive. I mean, my defenses poured their hearts and souls into the attack, but they were just too badly outgunned. I managed to take down 4, but it was hardly any consolation. My teslas deployed late, after the AD was down, so I suppose there's room for improvement there. Not sure how two level 3 teslas were going to handle the other 7 dragons...

Dragons: You either love them or hate them. Well, or maybe both... Or maybe you don't care...
Regardless of how you feel about dragons, please see this suggestion for Rebalancing Town Hall 7, which is primarily focused around rebalancing dragons.

Yeah, clan wars are different in that it is more of a pride thing, with your base withstanding an attack. It is a bit more fair in a clan war, but still, you are dealing with the very likely scenario of being 2 or 3 starred, unless you are the strongest base on your side, in which case you may 'enjoy' watching others get attacked, and attack back, while you are mostly left alone, or wind up wining most attacks sent to your base.

But, that's not quite what I'm looking for. It's the regular day by day threat of being raided and looted that I'm asking about, since that is where I hear most of the issues about CoC.

So far the results have been interesting. People seem to be more tolerant of raids than I would have assumed them to be, since it was all based on the rants I hear, along with some positive experiences. Then again, even with the restraints on time period, and type of attack, I still maybe missing a key factor here... or not.

Main reason why I did this was to see if I was correct. My assumption wasn't all that accurate as it turns out, which is interesting, since now I'm wondering why that is. I was thinking most of the votes would be on the 'hate' side of the ten choice scale, not right in the middle of it. I was like.. what.. one standard degree deviation off? I felt it would be more center two or so choices down than it currently is. Then again, there could be some confusion as to the meaning of each one. I did try to make things as properly scaled as possible... for as short a time I had to make it. (may need to make a draft first).

Angry Sorry, but need to rant & semi shameless bump

Hard to get data on this thing if it just falls off the commonly viewable spot in the forum.

Though this effort might be a moot point. The more I play CoC, the more I miss the real fun I had at the early Town Hall levels. Now it is just getting to be more a chore. And when that happens, uninstall the @#$%&#.

Defence sucks. Plain and simple. I have patience, but only so much. And I hate waste, and this is starting to feel like a waste of time.

Kind of realized this after another enraging raid from a TH9, and found out I just hate it more and more; even while planing and waiting on doing an equally enraging revenge attack back on the person attacking me.

A good game should never give people the feeling of hate and disgust. No wonder there is so many abandoned bases, people rage quit from the poorly done defence side of things. Oh sure, they have wonderful limits and benefit on rebuilding bases and keeping from going instantly broke when razed to the ground, but they (Supercell) still failed at making a key part of thier game worth tolerating.

Hire a damn psychologists and have them look over the system. Maybe you'll keep more of your player base past TH6 thru TH9!

I think I referenced that I already knew that... Does " waiting on doing an equally enraging revenge attack back on the person attacking me" look familiar?

Sure, the first several times on angering the attacker that enraged me is fun, but after awhile that wears thin. You know how many revenge attacks I have done? Do you? Likely several hundred since I stated doing them with the arguably overpowered dragons you get as a TH7. I could strike back on TH8s! It felt great that I could do something back that counted!

Since I 'upgraded' to TH8, it was just trolling DE revenge zapping. A pathetic, but still effective, way to recover some of your DE back, and transfer some of that rage back on them. Problem is, you just can't transfer rage. It is an illusion. You think you can, but you never really do.

Best use of my base after I leave is upgrade the resource buildings, place them in a challenging spot so my base hovers at a set trophy range, and let it give back to the damn game's screwed up 'economy'.

Don't @#$%ing have time to be addicted to a game I dislike. I do have a semblance of a life to work on after all.
