Hey, clashers. I had an idea for a new dark troop, so I thought I'd share it. Please note that I read dozens of posts before posting this thread, and I apologize if this idea is already out there. I realize the name has been used, but the ability and rough stats I have in mind are are rather different than what I've previously seen. I've also fleshed the idea out in a bit more detail than most, so I thought I'd just start a new post. In addition, this post is more for the idea than the specific stats. There's no way to predict what stats will be best balanced in conjunction with the other troops, so I am intentionally vague in some aspects. Now, without further ado, the frost giant.
Name: Frost Giant Main Purpose: Tanking
DPS: whatever balances (it would have a relatively slow attack speed like giants and golems) HP: higher than a giant's, lower than a golem's Cost: level 1 might be on the order of 100
Favourite Target: Defenses Damage Type: Single Target Targets: Ground Housing Space: <30 and >5, likely closer to 15 or 20 Training Time: 4 min - 12 min (depends on housing space and strength) Movement Speed: 12
Other Info:
Most of the dark troops have some sort of ability that makes them special. What differentiates the frost giant from the giant and golem is its frostiness. Unlike other ideas such as frosty creatures slowing defences, the extreme cold of the frost giant cools allied ground units within its radius (I don't know how big the radius should be to maintain balance) so that it counteracts the inferno towers' ability to block healing.
Why this unit might be good to implement:
The presence of the inferno towers at TH10 effectively removes the healer from high-level play. This troop could potentially open up new ground strategies at the top level because it has good synergies with existing troops and strategies. It could also open up other options with respect to spell choices, increasing the effectiveness of the healing spell for certain attacks.
This troop could be easily integrated into any existing attack strategy involving golems, for if the housing space is about 15, then two frost giants could replace one of the golems in any GoWiPe, GoWiWi, GoWiWiPe, etc, adding a new dynamic to these attacks. Sometimes a golem gets stuck on a wall, and with two frost giants, maybe one might get stuck on a wall and the other not. This small difference could greatly impact the longevity of a raid. In addition, being cheaper than golems could make them a more desirable choice when raiding for DE. From a defensive standpoint, this affects one's decision to use multi-target or single-target for the inferno towers due the ability for healing spells to be used. Another point to consider is if, for example, the housing space is 15, this would make them susceptible to spring traps, which could be used to help balance, but could also demand from attackers good tactics such as using witches' skeletons to set of spring traps to protect the frost giants.
Balancing out of the starting gate is not a guarantee (e.g., witches), but I think this troop could be balanced within the game as it exists today. Of course I could be wrong, though.
I'll finish by addressing a couple things that might, or might not be problems. With smaller housing space, this troop could be donated to earlier town halls, which could unintentionally impact lower level players in a clan. However, I don't think receiving one frost giant of this type would be worse than receiving, for example, a max dragon, which are overpowered against TH7s with the right strategy. The other thing is the consideration of when this troop would be unlocked. It seems likely that if this troop were added it would be unlocked at TH 10. I don't know if my build is strong enough to appease players at that TH and if it would be powerful enough to be useful in future updates such as if a TH 11 were released.
Well, if you made it this far, thank you for reading. I hope you either like this troop or are inspired by it. Comment if you feel so inclined, and if not...clash on my friends!
