download a screen recorder app. SC probably won't do this when people are already doing this themselves.
If I save it myself I will have to save it as a video, which means the file will be huge and I will need to set the whole thing up before every battle. But it is my understanding that SC saves only the troop configuration and the location and time troops and spells are dropped at, and then reenacts the battle on the server during replay. This is much more efficient, and that is why I am asking SC to save the battles. Now, if SC wants to update the app and give my mobile/tablet the ability to replay battles just like the server, this will also work. But I certainly would not like to save videos.

And just because of this it is impossible to save replays for a longer time. The replays are just plain code, when there has been an update or maintainence the replays will be deleted because the code will differ. If even one single parameter changed it could influence the battle in either a negative or positive way. This causes the replay to show stuff that didn't happen while you were actually raiding. To fix this SC needs to back up the code in use from the time of the raid and change it back temporarily when you want to watch that replay again. This is just not possible with the load of players of this game.
Oh and don't bump your post, that's not classy.
So you're worried about your space, but don't see the irony here? Even if Supercell is saving code, making it much more efficient, it's still taking up space. Add up every battle every player has ever fought, and you're asking a company that is providing you a game for free to take up a lot of space on its servers for something most people wouldn't use when they could use that space instead to update other features in the game that would get or keep more people playing. It's also not really practical from a player's standpoint either...you'd have an incredibly long scroll list and it would take you forever to find what you're looking for.
Your idea isn't totally without merit though; you're just asking too much. Here are some more reasonable ideas.
1. Instead of saving the last 4 attacks and defenses only, up that number to 10 or even 20.
2. Create a feature that allows a player to save a replay until they delete it. On each battle report in the attack and defense logs there would be a "Save Replay" button. These would be added to a "Saved Replays" folder alongside your attack and defense logs. Each player would be able to save a certain amount of replays, say 25 or 50. Players would be able to delete individual replays from the Saved Replays folder to free up space to save new ones.

I like the idea of saving a number of replays and me choosing which ones I would like to keep. As I said, I am willing to pay in gems to have this privilege. 10 gems per 100 replays per month sound reasonable, just to put an actual price to it?
And yes, SC should be keeping older versions of the code at hand, but I am sure they already do that. It should not be difficult to run the appropriate version of the code given the replay time stamp.

This was a ridiculous statement. You want something I get it, but don't start just making up stuff to schmooze your argument while trying to sound like you understand computer applications. You just gave away how much you don't know with that oversimplification.
The game infrastructure is running the current game version, they can't shut it down to load an older version or that would affect all players. To run all the older code versions (there are a lot, we switch to a new one almost every time the game is shut down and restarted on a maint break) they would have to maintain a whole separate infrastructure for each version to run on.
If you are so into saying what should not be too hard for others why not instead do it yourself? Stop complaining about video file size if you think increasing capacity is so easy for others. Put your money where your mouth is.
If everything angers you then you will spend your entire life being angry.
If everything pains you then you will spend your entire life in pain.
I debated about reporting your response, because I find it downright offensive. I am a professional code developer, and also in my original post I stated I am willing to pay to get my replays saved.
This being said, I agree that an easy solution is to save the replay in video. However, after a brief search, I was unable to find a suitable screen capture video app for Android. It appears that capturing quality video is only possible if I connect my tablet to my computer (too complicated), or if I root my device (this is out of the question as it voids the warranty).
Can SC recommend such an app on Android?

First thing that comes up searching for android screen recording apps is a list with screen recording apps for android (imagine that)

With regards to saving videos I doubt supercell will implement anything like this. As stated above while I'm sure supercell has old builds of the code they wouldn't be in the current compiled version. I wouldn't want the game size to balloon just so we can save a couple videos.
Second as for storing videos supercell currently doesn't have any sort of video capture, screen recording in the game and I would rather they focus on game content then putting in something that many other apps out there already do.
