Intro
There is nothing more disheartening to see a TH9 or 10 player absolutely plunder my TH8 base and pillage my resources leaving no choice but to drop my trophies so that I can save for that wizard tower.
Solution
empowering the defender with some amount of interactivity would give some more motivation to stay in those higher trophey levels.
How
during a 'live action replay' having a little more control on the defense structures, or the hero or the clan castle troops. Such as activating the heros ability, or being able to direct the canon at a target, or guiding the clan castle troops to a specific enemy.
Counter
attacking any base can be a challenge at times, to counter this new additional interactivity of the defender perhaps the attacker may also have more say on who or what his troops target. For example guiding a wall breaker to a certain wall, or directing the PEKKA into the base instead of attacking the outer buildings. Naturally this may get complex, so maybe a once off directional guide, the player doesn't tell the unit what to attack, but atleast as a bit more say on where it should go. Such as selecting the unit at the start and swiping in the intended direction.
Further more
perhaps before an attack, one is able to Organise troops into packs, in order to allow for more strategic deployement of troops
Eg: bundling 4 giants with 3 wizards and 5 barbarians, then dropping it like clan castle (or in this case a rally point) and then the troops stream out from that point and attack.
I like the idea of organising troops into packs. Maybe the control should be
hold-until-desired-amount+swipe
They would all form a formation and then run in they would run that way until they reach something. This wouldn't need much balancing and would improve strategies like GoWiPe when the GoWiPe's Pe decides it'd be better off with destrying the mines and barracks around the base.
So what you mean by telling your troops "hey go to this general spot" is kind of like a rally point? You know press rally button and have your troops go to that spot? If this is what you mean then i agree. I have had many times where my troops attack things i dont want.
ALTHOUGH!!!! this could be really dangerous!!! Say im attacking your base. All i have to do is target your th with enough troops and that can result in an instant win for the attacker. So this does have a flip side.
