To confirm: it is true, if the research has less time remaining than the building (lab) upgrade will take, the research will be done when the building upgrade finishes.
Pekkas lvl 3 were upgrading (4 days left) when the Lab 7 upgrade started and the research was done when the building upgrade finished.

TH 9 lvl 124 250 lavas; 30/30 heroes
That is when I saw this bug occur.
