When I finally done with lego, I started to think to upgrade my th too, but... dunno why but I just wanna stay and I'm enjoying farm my walls and heroes. lol
So to answer your question : whether upgrading to TH10 is worth the shot.
The answer is like what you said depending on what you want your game to be played.
In case of your heroes, upgrading to TH10 is actually the best option since you get another DE drill, better troops, larger camps, and 5th spell slot, allowing you to farm DE much easier. One guy of my clan managed to farm 15k DE daily just by using barch (no heroes). His archer queen has hit 30s and is constantly upgrading nonstop.
In case of clan wars, it's a question you ask yourself. If you were a TH10 could you 2 star a TH10?
Because 2 starring a TH10 let alone a maxed one is not as easy as any "not TH10 yet" thinks.
I was tempted to farm for lego and upgrade heros but realised that I would have 3-4 builders doing nothing most of the time and that doesn't sit well with me. I like to keep progressing as fast as possible and to have builders idle doesn't do that.
I have never farmed specifically for any type of wall and they have only ever been paid for by excess gold/elixir from when I save to upgrade other items.

I see, well yeah, my goal now is just do 20 AQ 20 BK. My leftovers are 2 raks (level9) 6bombs (lv5) 2 Dark raks (level5) so after I max my leftovers. I move. so my builders wont sleep

My defenses are still TH7 and heroes 10/14. Once I max walls, my defense would probably be mid TH9 and heroes 20/20, so that should be fine for me to move on and start on zaps
