bleh
First off, I was thinking it was a one time intro (bold for people skimming), since repeated showing would get annoying, and as you said, people would just press the right buttons to skip past the intro. It stops being an introduction after... you know.. being introducedSince the intro is new to people for the first time, and wanting to go to the right spot, and the intro obviously is there, addressed to them, to help them get there, they would listen, as they get told how to go about finding things they need, rather than blindly hunt for what they only want alone. If they don't get that they need to not post ruled out ideas after that, then they are total noobs
If/when this gets first added, it could be possible for no account to have a 'flag' saying they have posted here before, but obviously it can check for a post made here. So it is up to the coder to judge to have everyone, new and old, go through the intro once or just newbies or new-ish people (and whatever post count or stat they feel is ideal). There could be a link to check the intro again, or another page of her welcoming them again as she helps them walk through things again to see if thier idea is ruled out, already in a thread, or is new (obviously voluntary)

I joined the forum two years ago but only go online once a week or so to see what's new. This is a great idea, my first thread on the forums was in this sub-forum and while I am a mature adult that actually reads the rules before posting many younger members join because they just have to tell everyone about their resource exchange idea as if nobody thought of it before. Point made: This Thread, which was posted less than an hour ago. Funny that I didn't notice that thread before I made the example.
One minor and nearly unavoidable problem: In my experience on other forums immature posters tend to not know what an edit button is and rack up post numbers because they can't be bothered to correct their previous posts. There's also the clan recruitment threads which tend to get tons of bumps by the same people, often more than the rules allow.
I would like to see this idea become a reality.

Quit.
BattleBorn has nothing on me on word volume.Because I have no life
...
Wait...
That's not something to brag about! Where's the stop button on this recorder? Gah! Where's the edit button?! Gawd fu-... </end of message>
Really?! Now that you mention it, haven't seen him in a while. At least I stay dedicated/addicted for 2-3 years before moving on for whatever reason. (yes.. think of the post count.. 12-15 posts a day average for 3 years... Will be frick'n huge)
Glad you like it! And showing the edit button to newbies would be a good think to add to the intro.
And there is a use for a feature elsewhere? That'd be awesome if this idea model was used successfully elsewhere on the forum. 95%-99% of my posts are only in this sub forum, since I have a lot of time to think, and like to see if I can get things puzzled together to work; so I'm only familiar with things here, and that's what this idea is originally for, this sub forum.
Guess the newbie audience that spam this place are young, since adults (like us) tend to (but not always) check out things before jumping in with a post. Obviously we don't know how well the sticky thread works, and how many don't post ruled out ideas, since they don't obviously don't post anything, but with this intro page idea, with the 3 response buttons, statistics can be made on how many people do get prevented from posting ruled out ideas.

Would really like a Mod's opinion on this, on if this is even doable, or hopefully in the works.
Otherwise, why waste time on an idea that's not going to work?
I wouldn't mind trying to write up some of the intro, if I had some encouragement. I do better at writing when I'm not writing alone. You can kind of see evidence of that with the long response posts I make scattered all over the recent parts of this forum.

Anyway, warren you could try to pm a moderator directly about this issue. Only thing is your idea might not be entirely possible with the forum's current features.

Quit.
I've been tempted to PM one, but I don't know who to direct it to, plus if the mods and staff are reading all the posts, there isn't a reason to think I'm any more speical than anyone else and try to push things too much and message them.
I've seen them add a few custom features here and there. Even the Supercell icon you see in some posts isn't something you see in standard forums. Also in the Bugs & Problem forum, they added a prefix feature, so I'm thinking someone is getting thier feet wet in regards to forum code programingTechnically, the coding needed for what I'm asking for is just an account authority check, page redirect to the intro page, followed by either a return to the home sub forum page, a redirect to another thread, or the OK to actually go to the New Thread page. Account checks and redirected to another page are already functions of the forum. The only issue I can see is intro page content, since that has to be written to be engaging so newbies don't just spam the Next button to shut it up.
Also, that one person's comment about a donkey is saying that the Mods are jackasses, if I had to guess the inferred meaning. Ironically, reporting them for thier comment might actually help with getting a Mod's attention to this idea, so I thank them for being a troll in this case![]()

I actually have PM'd this and a couple other similar posts. I do think it would help a lot for them to at least try to put the breaks on. I understand that guy that is just banging his way through everything because fixated on getting to the green button is not stoppable. But if you give some work to do along the way even slowing him down helps.
But I think the issue is that there needs to be a bit of web programming to put that sort of functionality into the forum pages. The account record would need a flag and/or a counter field (depending on exactly what was being done) added to it and then the mechanism to read that info to decide which way to send a person would need to be added.
If everything angers you then you will spend your entire life being angry.
If everything pains you then you will spend your entire life in pain.
As I said, I believe the technical issues are the least of the concerns mods would have with this idea, since adding account flags and redirects are a key part of most multiuser programs. It is the content of the multi page intro that I'm worried about. It can only be ran once, and has to hold a newbies attention, with said newbie likely being an impatient adolescent that is either just familiar enough with forums to know how to find the New Thread button, or is very experienced in other forums to assume they know enough to not need to read the rules in the sticky thread.
So the writing team has thier work cut out for them with trying to write one thing that is able to handle the different mindsets a newbie here could possibly have. The hardest one to get to slow down and read is the one that assumes they know enough, since they are not looking for unsolicited help, and are more likely to pound the 'next' button to plow past the intro, rendering it useless in it's purpose.
The best way to handle that I guess would be asking how familiar the viewer is to forums. That way the tone of voice for the viewer could better match what's needed.
In short, website coding is a whole lot simper than 'human coding', in regards to this idea.
