I don't want to sound unsympathetic but How many email accounts does he have? Just try each one, no?

Email support. They will ask questions. They can recover through things like ip address and all that.

Just tell him to try all the emails he knows.
I would suggest doing a legit search of his computer for the email... this could help him if hes linked to google+ or gamecenter
If not... I had a buddy who basically just had his in game handle get his village back because he had at one point bought gems..... reciepts (which are almost surely digital) for gems are a very specific link between a real person and a potential account (which there could be many identical names).... so get a nerd on his computer and find out if your bud ever bought gems
How would he get in contact with supercell directly to have them assist him?
Email support, they will be in contact within a few days. It could take a week for them to stop going over the copy and paste questions but it keeps track of convos so it eventually becomes a personal case.
