    So many gems!

While reading this forum and other places, I see people mention having and/or spending so many gems. Numbers in the dozens, hundreds, and even thousands per month and week. I get gems from clearing out objects growing around my village, and I've purchased at least $20 worth (in $5 batches every few weeks). I'm not a gem prude - they are a legitimate part of the game whether found our bought. It does not affect or bother me one little bit if some buys thousands of gems to build their village. It's all fine and good.

But I wonder if people do actually spend hundreds of real world money on gems. This seems like an expensive way to play. More power to you if you can afford that. Or is there some other gem source I don't know about? What's the deal on how folks have such high gem expenditures?

All the top players are probably rich, since they throw down thousands on this game. At least they're funding SC for a new update soon, right?

The fact that CoC has been the #1 grossing app in the App Store for so long should be enough evidence that a lot of people are buying a lot of gems. The 'gem source' is in-app purchases.

A lot of people can afford it, and I guess others simply go into debt

If I was single I probably would have bought a $100 gem package early on. But that's a tough purchase to justify to the wifey. We could easily afford it, but there are many other things I would prefer to spend $100 on. And you're just buying time savings on a game. Not a big deal, but I don't care if others want to do it.

I'm glad people keep paying for the game by buying gems.

It's not so much to spend on something you enjoy and play daily. I know people who have spent far more on their other hobbies or seasonal activities - I know I have.

Where I live, a one-day ski lift ticket costs about $75. Equipment rental tacks on another $41, and gas to-and-from the mountain costs about $50. Most people who ski/snowboard buy their own skis, poles, bindings, boots, and helmet ($400-$1200) and winter gear like a jacket, fleece, ski pants, gloves, hat, goggles, heavy socks, and thermal underwear ($500+). That's a lot of money for a seasonal/occasional sport. Even if you live slope-side where there is snow all year round, you'd be hard-pressed to put in as much time skiing as many have put into Clash of Clans. That's just one example. There are infinite others.

It's all relative. Spend what you can afford on what you enjoy and don't worry how other people spend their money.

Last monst we had a war against a clan from saudi arabia... five players had maxed troops with very little GG. Guess they had lot of 'oil money'

I had a friend from Qatar, she had a gemmed base. Then her friend joined us and went from level 30 to 65 in like a day. Then my first friend had a level 30 something town hall 10 with level 20 heroes that she pushed to champ.

I also know a top player that joined a clan and the leader bought him 14,000-28,000 gems a day to get number 1 in the world.

People are nuts or have lots of money. I guess if you are loaded, they don't notice it. I can't afford it, but I also prefer to learn all aspects of the game farming included. I mainly buy gems to boost.
