In gaming gone by you use to be able to download dedicated servers. What this enabled you to do was essentially host a game on your own PC/Server.

Now days, most 'if not all', gaming companies control the servers, so they can on-sell servers for an additional income stream, control the longevity of the game 'i.e discontinue it so people will buy newer versions of the game', and try to curve exploits.

SuperCell essentially hold the key to how long CoC will last as the end users 'us', aren't able to continue playing the game without access to their servers 'based on current technology'.

I think the reason coc has lasted so long is no multi account ♥♥♥♥♥ing but if they don't stop the ˇmod it will have its effect.

A year and a half. Time will catch up. When SC releases the TH11, there will be new walls, defense, troops, ect. That will require a MASSIVE revamping of the loot system. And that will be the near end of CoC's rein.

Yeah, because spending tons of money only to have better graphics and not being able to play Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, God of War, Halo, Super Smash Bros., Pokémon, etc, etc, etc, is the best option out there

because of ease of play and fairly easy to progress quickly to th7/8 coc will probably retain/gather users until they stop development of new content. similar to how WOW lost players until recent expansion came out and had a resurgence

COC was released in August 2012, so it's about 2.6 years old. Not to old, and it's still attracting thousands of new players every day. It's gonna be around for a much longe time.

Runescape was a perfect example of how updates don't always make it a great game. I was 12 I believe when it came out and we started playing it. Completely free, few years later the membership version came out. Down the line it hd some horrible updates but they were pretty good with listening to the players and fixing the wrongs. Kinda all went bad when a Venture bought in taking majority control. Updates monthly, big updates too, not just small events and such. Anyway, as someone said they decided to change the whole combat system more than a decade after the game came out. Mostly pressure from an outside source trying to squeeze profits. So anyway, the point im making is if people not stress about the frequency of updates rather than the quality, we have a lot of time left of clash. But hey, made thousands upon thousands of dollars off Runescape. Paid off to make 10 characters when the game came out to collect stupid items that turned into crazy real world cash. Sorry, got off topic. nostalgia kicked it. The life span of Clash is based off the quality of updates, the staff paying attention to feedback and as im sure most can agree by past game deaths, the control of the company in the right hands. Long live clash

CoC is still pretty early in the DAU growth curve. I would say if SC is going public now I will still buy it, but too bad Softbank already have majority ownership, and they will be too busy fixing Sprint (or selling it off) to try to micromanage SC into squeezing more profits.

Those CoC clones will not have the critical mass to challenge it - so far its hard to see anyone coming even close. For every mature player leaving there will be another two new ones joining, particularly in markets like China and India.

So yes, it will be around quite a long time. But the more appropriate question is how many of us will be around a long time if all there is to it is to grind a couple of walls a day

Based on my experience with mmorpg's this could be around for years as long as sc don't try to milk it or add in pay to play updates. The game will still be around after that but the number of players will be massively reduced and they will have to downsize the servers if they do try to milk it. A shoutout to sc- You will not gain profit for adding pay to play updates or milking!
