The first thing we should consider to answer that question is: what do we mean with amount of gold? Are we talking about cumulative gold grab? Gold in our storages? Value of our structures? And more importantly: what is our dollar to gold exchange rate?
With a 1 dollar to 1 unit of gold as our exchange rate and counting structure costs to calculate the amount of gold, then I’d say yes, there are more units of gold in Clash of Clans than money in the world, now, if we consider a more realistic gold to dollar exchange rate (400,000 units per dollar) then I’d say that no, not even close: a maxed base with 1.5 billion gold grab is only worth $ 4k. We wouldn't be close even if we maxed every base in the game.
I'm not trying to be a jerk now, but this thread/poll is pointless and silly..

There are a few fundamental flaws in multiple posters response. Some rely on the notion of calculating GG numbers. But if you spent the money, and it goes back into the system, does that gold still exist? The second flaw is assuming everyone has full storages which, last time i went through nexting, is not hard to disprove....
As of 1 year ago, there was about $8.5 trillion gold in the system if I recall correctly (don't ask where I heard, I think it was Chief Pat :P) Now, there is probably 13 t because of more players and CW. The real world has over 4 times that, not in solid cash, but liquid assets, which are a fairly odd form of money that is the majority of all wealth.

Clash on!
Gold is consistently being added to the Clash economy at a huge rate.
Money is not being injected into the worlds economy due to inflation etc etc.
I'd assume there's more gold already in Clash.
What is this that I feel and what is this that I fear?
If i earn 7 million then spend it, does that 7 million remain in the system as a statistic?
Its hard to compare this to real world economics. When credit is made in the fractional reserve banking system, cash is created. When spent, that money remains in the bank. Every time this is done, money supply increases. The only way to reduce the supply of money in the US is by the federal reserve
however in clash, when gold is spent, it doesn't go into a Superbell server bank. It just stops existing until it's created again by the mines and league bonuses. Thats why it makes it hard to calculate the true number of gold that actually exists in the clash economy.
In Clash, Gold is constantly being spent and disappearing back into the system
in the real world inflation is caused by the increase of the money supply. With the system of fractional reserve banking, nearly every bank in the nation can create money faster than your gold mines can make gold.
