I don't understand... was my explanation not enough? I cant believe people cry for realism but then start complaining when they get it.
In case you kids dont understand gold coins are man made, gold nuggets are mined for. Those nuggets are then minted into gold coins which are the currency in clash land that the builders accept.
Nuggets cannot be used in transactions easily due to varying purities and sizes. Since the cost for all upgrades are consistent one may assume that the nuggets are exchanged for government issued coins, or that coins are required to be pure gold and stuff, in which case the government might give the village chiefs a coin maker similar to ice cream makers, that work instantaneously.

Forget the gold for just a second, on the elixir collectors...that smoke stack pipe, why is it there? Why is it throwing out perfectly good elixir? And for that matter since when did elixir not only have a liquid state but a gas state?

it's probably filtering dirty/contaminated elixir
and now you've got me wondering about frozen elixir lol
