What about if clash gave us a campaign mode for each troop and at the end we get a "king" or "queen" version of that troop, like a wizard king after the wizard campaign. However, the campaign would be specific to each unit so for the dragon king, an air defense heavy campaign could be made. And for the troops that would have the better heroes, the campaigns for them could be harder so that only higher th's could get them, or only certain heroes are available per th. Then clash could change the hero stands so that once you click on them, it gives you the option to switch out heroes. So someone could make a really bulky defense with a golem and lava hound king. This would make it so that you'd have to mix up the heroes to have a very high powered offense to counter this, such as a wizard king and witch queen. So instead of just being able to have the barb king and archer queen the player could swap out heroes to make the game more customizable. This would add a new strategy element to the game. Then every attack could be different and every defense is different. It is easily balanced if it was made so that a hero could only be switched out if the hero stand is fully healed. That way no abusing the system could take place with just cycling heroes when one goes down. So once the stand is healed it could be clicked on to switch out the hero for another. Just an idea but i think it would be cool.
