Questions: joining a clan and trophy math

Hi y’all. I have a couple of issues with questions that I can’t find the answer to through Google, so I created an account here to ask.

First issue:
I have a clan that consists of mostly my sons and their friends. It is set to “Invite only”. My sons are co-leaders, and their friends are Elders. Usually, when someone requests to join, if they are accepted, the message in chat says:
“XXX
I’d like to join your clan
Accepted by YYY”

Followed by:
“XXX
was accepted to the clan by YYY”

But a few times someone has gotten into the clan without anyone seeing a request, and without anyone accepting. The chat note says:
“XXX
Joined the clan”

This just happened this morning, and the person immediately left:
“XXX
Has left the clan”

My question is, how does this happen? How can someone get into our clan without requesting and being accepted?


Second issue:
How is the trophy award determined? For instance, I am at TH7, and I attacked a TH9 player*. I was at around 1400 trophies, and he was about 1300. My attack got one star and 4 trophies from him (out of 12 possible with 3 stars). He attacked me in revenge, getting 3 stars and 45 trophies from me.

How does that work? I’m two TH levels lower than him, but he’s worth only 12 trophies to me, and I’m worth 45! to him? Does league matter? (I’m Gold III, he’s Silver I.)

*His (and mine) Town Hall is set outside the walls, away from defenses.

[In case it needs to be said: I am not complaining. I just trying to figure out the math/logic.]

First one some has invited them... thats how they were able to join... u can find ppl of global and invite them to join the clan if they are clanless...

Trophies have nothing to do with your TH level... you can generally attack someone within your trophy range + or - 200 trophies... so the more the distance the more trophies u gain... for ex: if you are 1200 and you attack someone at 1390 then u might get 34 trophies offered, if you attack someone with 1150 then u might get only 10 or so... i donot know the exact formula but this is roughly how it works

Considering how easy it is to gain and lose trophies, it didnt dawn on me that awards would be based on that number rather than actual base power levels.
