Yeah I can see what you are saying, although I don't boost barracks particularly often, I usually do it during events although I did it a few times since the last one. In the past i have saved until I had a load of gems and got builders, then after i got the fifth builder i kept saving them and used them to finish the th8 to 9 upgrade a couple days early because collectors and storages were full

I understand and if you don't gem nor buy gems you obviously don't boost barracks' often but if you are going to spend 112 gems on finishing the builder you're better off boosting barracks' a few times rather than doing that was all im saying because then you will still do your 16 wall pieces and much more rather than just your 16 pieces early. Might as well maximize those gems as best as possible since they're few and far between for you.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone so far, i think impatience will probably get the better of me and I'll end up gemming it in a few hours in a kinda compromise.

as far as my base- I have 130 legos and 120 skulls, only defenses left to do are cannons, arch towers and traps, all elixir upgrades done except heal spell to 6, dark troops being worked on and heros being worked on i see it as mid th9 as im planning on doing heros to 30 and all lavas before going to 10 but lots of people have said they think im ready for th10

Gem last minute before you go to sleep (20-30 gems). Farm a little if you can. And put some walls up.

Building lego walls is a long job. Wanting to do 20 a day then don't play for 2 days isn't the way to go. Just make your 8 tonight and try to make an other 8 tomorrow after your lectures.

With empty storage, you will probably just get snipped. My mini has 8M elixir in storage and it's been that way for almost 2 week. As long as you have low gold/DE, almost nobody will do full attack just for elixir. But if you collect DE also, then you become a target.

Definitely, I had already planned to keep this one free as it is the last elixir building upgrade left so to me it would be logical to keep one builder free to dump elixir from now on, if anything it's just highlighted the need to keep a builder for walls

Ok, so I am playing with the plan to fully max without spending a penny on the game, nothing against people gemming, infact im grateful to people who do gem for keeping the game financed for updates. As things stand i would class myself as a mid th9 and I have got to the point where I have decided to keep a builder free for walls (all elixir upgrades done except last heal spell level) I have 9 hours left to wait on that builder but have had full storages for over a day already. It would cost me 104 gems as things stand to finish the building and I have 112 gems.

So considering that in 9 hours time I will likely be about to sleep (gone midnight, have uni lectures tomorrow morning) would you use those gems and get 16 legos done with what is saved, and potentially 4-5 more through farming but reduce yourself down to 8 gems left or would you wait up and just do the 16 walls, keeping the gems?

I would keep the gems. Unless of course, you have all 5 builders.

I have all the builders, got two working on an air defense, one on a wiz tower, one on dark barracks and one set aside for heros

After reading all thoughts I have decided i will wait until the building can be finished with 70 gems, this will leave me with 42 plus whatever is in the obstacles I have left to clear, these average 2 gems each and I have 7 so I will have around 54 gems, enough for a boost session should I feel like it and time to do some farming tonight
