Will gemming make me play the game less?
I like to accomplish things, so the money is not the issue. I only bought gems to get 5th builder. This is not a really video game or I might spend more money on it. Don't see any reason too. I've spent 100's on other real games before.
If I had a much higher disposable income I would definitely gem more time, particularly on hero upgrades. Hate them sleeping while a builder taps around them for 7 days.
But... since my times is short and i work 16h a day , i don't get to play too much, there's when i find gemming usefull, if helps a bit to catch up the time u don't have to play and keep the builders buzzy 24/7 :P
Time is more important than money in fact that's what you exchange everyday to earn some money. Having the resources I gem what is necessary, for example the 5 builders, the rest of the things I farm them or SC provides with all the free gems they give. There is a "fun" part for everyone in this game and people will spend money to get there faster and have the "fun" they want.
I have the income to gem but choose not to. I want to finish my base without spending a penny
My time of course. I do not have more than 2-4 hrs a day to play this game. (Actually it's already too much for me)
So, how I manage now is, if i have 2 hrs long interval, for example, before i go to sleep or early in the morning, i boost my barracks and farm.
I usually build my things around 10-12 pm, i can time my boost attacks 2 hrs before it happens and build 1 thing then log off. I also manage to NOT LET everything finish together at the same day so that i do not need to farm too much. I can farm around 30mil/resource more or less at 1 interval. So, together with some from collectors and war, i can upgrade something.
I'm at TH 9 nearly maxed about 1 month from everything maxed and it's working out perfectly for me. Sometimes, I even go on without farming for 2-3 days as my workers are not free. The enjoy part comes from me from WAR right now, trophy used to Master but hasn't tried Champion so, I don't know about trophy pushing yet.
As someone said before, Time cannot be regained, and also I do not have spare time more than 2-4 hrs a day.

I play and farm every day and Gem when I feel like it. Don't see the drama really... The only time I scratch my head is with stupid, totally gemmed bases not ones done evenly. I attacked a base yesterday in Master 3. It had Level 3 walls, 1 low level gold mine, 2 low level collectors, 2 maxed Infernos, 3 Maxed Xbows and Heroes at about level 10..All other defences were around lv 3/4. Bizarre...Wasn't an idle base either so the guy was playing still.
For me, it's not a matter if I can afford it, it becomes a "what next" issue. I generally don't gem (GENERALLY) because I enjoy playing. Right now there's always something to keep me playing. Next upgrade, next upgrade, next upgrade. If I was max th 10, then what? Hang out till the next th and gem that too so I can say I have a max th 11? The apps I delete, are the ones I am finished with, or got stale. I'd rather not dump money into a game that is going to get me to the "stale" state quicker.
I belive that 90% of the ppl who attack, and make fun of ppl who gem are kids, that doesn't have the income to purchace by themselfs so they are jealous. The 10% left are the haters. That simple to me haha, like i've said before, if u like the game, and work most of your day, why not gem when necessary!? Most haters say : "I'd rather spend my money in something else"
I believe that other then paying your bills, game is a form of stress relieving , and or having fun, so U R expending for fun (same as going to a club, drinking, etc), it's all the same to me.
