Took me a few weeks but it all depends on what else you are upgrading and how much you play.

It's automatic. Do you mean how long does it take to save up enough gold for them?
Well it depends how much gold you put aside to spend on them and how much/fast you raid gold. In short, a long time

I've maxed out all of my defense except air defense and am finishing level 7 walls. Just curious on how long it takes to farm them if I do them all for a continuous period of time.
