If that was in place, literally every lvl of wall in the game could be done with either gold or elixir and have zero effect on the economy.
So they only took it away for 2 TH levels, 7 and 8. All these TH9s who were just handed a "golden TH" to do almost all base progression at due to this revert were telling TH8s to deal with it, to cook up more expensive troops and hit larger hauls if they didn't want the elixir. And you are right, it takes too long to make them, so even without being able to hit those top gold storage bases, TH8s would be better off farming with fast-cooking tier 1 troops and just hit collectors for 150k/150k or more a pop. Even conservatively, that comes to over 600k/600k an hour. One heavy army an hour finding that 600k gold base is borderline impossible, to find a hittalbe 400k gold base would even be a rarity.
Well now dragons are faster to cook, and not one single TH9 has the right to complain about any problems resulting from this. They would smugly tell the TH8s to do exactly what they're doing now, and the reason they told them that is b/c they knew all too well that it wasn't viable from a time standpoint. Now it is, and now TH8s can drain their elixir by making strong troops to hit TH9 storages. Fair is fair.
