Flamed if you do, Flamed if you don't!

So if you post a topic that has already been discussed (even if it were MONTHS ago) people will flame you for not searching for it and adding on there.

If you find an old topic and necro it (raise it from the dead) you get flamed for doing so.

I wish i could get in a room with all the trolls at once!

Eh...yes and no. If you want to start a thread similar to something brought up recently, you need to put some effort into making it different enough to warrant a new discussion. For instance, there was a pretty good 'war matchmaking' thread started today that wasn't about whining or crying. It was about just discussing all of our general experience with matchmaking. That's a good example.

If you want to start a thread on something that was brought up a while ago, something needs to have changed since then to also warrant a new conversation. Like a major update to that specific thing....so it's the same 'topic'....but it's actually different because so much has changed. Not sure if that made sense.

Just ignore the trolls and carry on with your conversation. If people don't want to talk about it the thread will disappear.

Alternatively if people would just get off their high horses and simply ignore threads they are not interested in rather than trying to curry favor with the mod staff by sniffing out "violations," there wouldn't be a problem to begin with.

That's his point though.. If you don't have that much more to add other than participating in the discussion, and the thread has been idle for a little bit, you get flamed for bumping it. Instead of necro'ing a thread, you start a new discussion that is almost the same, and you still get that reaction from others.

I'm clapping. You can't see it, but it's happening. Agreed 100%.

Then we end up with 14 threads about zapping on the the first three pages... That's not a good solution either...

this is how I decide if it's right to bump.

    Nerco Bump

when someone post an answer to a question that was asked six months ago, as if the OP is still waiting for the answer. Or, posts to a thread that is no longer valid becuase the issue has been corrected.

    Acceptable bump

adding a new perspective to an idea that has fallen off the board. Assuming that the poster didn't skip over a dozen similar threads and select the year old one instead of the two week old one. This seems like a better idea compared to starting yet one more zapping thread.

the only time I start a new thread is if the newest similar thread is 3 months old
