Diff betw. active village and warbase

What is the difference between your active village and a war base? Also, as a matter of defensive strategy, should I have my Town Hall and my gold and elixir targets in he center or spread out? It seems like the closer they are to the wall, the easier it is to get to them, but on the other hand, if they're massed in the center, they're all one big target.

active village is the base that you will have when people search for you during normal attacks - you should have your storages spread out throughout your base, ideally 2 walls deep, TH should be outside walls in a corner away from defences

war base is the base you will have for the enemy to attack during war - doesn't matter where storages are, TH near the middle of base

Can you explain why you would place the TH outside the village. I've heard of this strategy, but don't remember why it's done.

With your TH outside, you will usually be attacked by a weak opponent, taking few trophies, no resources, and giving you a 12h shield that prevents stronger opponents from attacking you and stealing loot. That being said, there is never a good reason to have your TH inside - even when pushing! When pushing, the advantage lies in the unlikelyhood that someone will come 2 or 3 star you before anyone else snipes your TH.

War base is your base is clan war. Your TH should be outside the base, and storages must be spread out.
