    Simple. The troops are artificial constructs conjured via magic from purple goo. Once deployed they have a 3 minute lifespan.

    Troops not coming back, reward the player for using only the troops they need. This is a huge strategic element of attacking. Furthermore, if the troops survived, overwhelming force could be used repeatedly in rapid succession against weaker villages.

    Troops being expended if deployed makes the game better from a strategic standpoint, as well as avoids certain potential exploits. This is why the game works this way.

    Ok, with both of your opinions on this, explain why Clan Castle troops when you defend come back when they dont die? Same concept right?

    Clearly not.

    The clan castle, similar to army camps, contains various powerful magics that act as a stabilizing agent for the troops (magical constructs really) housed within. As long as they can quickly get back inside (they don't go very far), they are able to avoid spoiling.

    Might be the fact that by the time a wizards blast has reached the ground from so high up, it has significantly lost power...
