The idea is once you've created your base during war preparation you have the opportunity to use any set of troops (at no cost of elixir) to attack your own base.
This will help gamers find holes and strategies opponents may look to capitalize on.

And if you make your base the same as another base of the same town hall level in your opponent's clan?
It's really exploitable.
So they wait until you swap you real base in then do the model up on battle day. With 24 hours to work with that is easy enough to do.
You underestimate the number of guys that would do the exploit to win their wars. They already have a crisis going on with how many are doing this even now when the game does not have a built in feature to support it. Add one and things will get really nuts.
Let me offer a different twist, what if this tool was not available at all during war? Could only be used between wars.

If everything angers you then you will spend your entire life being angry.
If everything pains you then you will spend your entire life in pain.
I think "sand box" battles have been suggested in various ways and it's been put on the dead idea list by the devs. Would be cool though.
1. clanmate/You copy enemy wr base.
2. You practice attacking on it until you beat it
3. Once you get it right then you dothe attack on the enmy and know the exact pathing and result.
And yes people will do this. Just because you don't doesnmt mean others won't. And not everyone uses a fake base and I don't think this should be put in consideration when implementing it.

The point of this feature is to only be available DURING war preparation. In essence you are preparing for war wether you copy a base or not. However, as with everything there are those who will look to abuse this feature if it were implemented. This could be resolved by putting a cap on number of simulated attacks.
I gotta think anyone that only thinks it has a use during war is pretty much looking for the exploit. And so I have to side with the rule out on that one.
If there as interest on having it available only between wars then a person could use it while developing a base for a coming war (which with the new editor they can do) but cannot use it once in a war where they have seen the opponents bases, that might be workable.

I don't see how this helps. It just causes a chance for you to forget to change it and then you have a dummy base.
I build my army after looking over the base. If I don't have the right troops, I use them on a farming raid and rebuild the proper troops.
If I were to allow practice attacks, I would let people do it and pay for it with troops. No practice troops.
