Yeah, it's a shame that bad ruled out ideas get more attaention than good ones. I do put some fault on me.

Wouldn't normally care about some piddly little thing like this, but since I'm already annoyed by how problems here in this place aren't taken care of, I might as well start with this problem.

So congrats, you got what you wished for.

    Thanks Warren. I appreciate it.

I was looking for that post in this thread and could not find it. I wanted to see what he was replying to.

I'm wondering if I need to modify this idea, since odds are there isn't going to be a 'Ruled Out Ideas and Misc' (or whatever it is named) subforum to move those threads to, instead of delete outright.

Maybe I should make a template message for Ruled out thread posters, so I don't have to retype the same thing, but want to give a welcoming message to newbies too caught up posting an idea, that they miss the big, in caps, sticky thread telling them what to do.

Anything forum side that I can use for templeted replies?

Many players come on the forums because they have a new idea that they want in the game. They come up and post the idea, and over time, they see this one reply: "Ruled out, read the sticky." How're they supposed to know what either terms mean? They barely know which place to post their idea. So I think the main problem with ruled-out posts is the fact that they don't know which posts are ruled out. So we shouldn't have any boycotting, or any new ruled-out section on the forums. We simply need forumers to greet the newcomer, and explain to them that it's ruled out, and why it's ruled out. And to also explain what and where the sticky is.

I think this will clear up most of our problems. We just need to be patient and explain, for we were all new to the forums once.

I mean 'boycott' as in stop commenting on those threads over and over again, which just makes the issue worse, since it keeps the wrong threads at the top, while the good ones sink.

I feel the same way, and the best idea I've come up with, if programmable, is a 'newbie catch' on the New Thread button. New people aren't going to be familiar with a dang thing here. They are just going to look for what they think they want, and totaly miss what they need. So to help crub that, and automate things some, the idea is to make an account check when making a new thread. If this is the first time posting here, you get directed to a stylized intro page, with what's-her-name-village-helper narrating and addressing the user. The intro page will have an easy to read layout of the rules, and list of considered and ruled out ideas. Then there will be 3 response buttons near the end. 'Yes, my idea is ruled out', which she will empathize with you, the Chief, and it will send them back to the forum page. Or 'I found my idea in another thread' and will be glad to have helped you, and it will direct you to the thread. Last 'Nope, my idea seems orginal' she will be glad for you, and send you to the new thread screen. In the intro, she will point out where all of the source info can be found, like the Ruled out listing.

After the first time, any more clicks would not take you the intro screen. However, if there are updates to the ruled out list or whatever, everyone with older flags on thier account, saying they saw the intro, will be redirected to her again, but this time it would be a recap of things, along with what was updated. Then they can continue on.

Coding the redirect wouldn't be too hard, but the content for the intro page would be hard. You'd have to have it hold a person's interest long enough for them to read and understand the message they are supposed to get.

Anyway, it's an idea, but doubt it will happen
