Always remember, you never know when sc is going to nerf or buff a given troop.....it's nice to have that new buffed troop already maxed.

I think it's more important to have maxed troops over maxed walls. So you get raided, big deal if you have a really good farming army. If you max every or at least the important troops at each TH level, you will have little problem. You should of course always try to max splash and AD, but not enough emphasis is being placed on the most important thing: offense.
I'm not saying I advocate not maxing each TH, I have and will continue to do so. I think it's the way the game is designed for the least frustrating experience, but it's not required.

Skipping TH8 might not be the best strategy for all, but its a viable method to progress faster. A TH8, no matter how maxed will always lose to a TH9 basic GiBarch or Barch attack regardless of base design and defense level. The only variable for the TH9 is the amount of spells and heroes needed.
