    The Ballista

New Elixir Troop - The Ballista

Ever wanted to bring a mini X-Bow out onto the battlefield? Well, with the help of these handy little skeletons, now you can! Although they fire more slowly than a normal X-Bow, they are still a very powerful weapon on the battlefield. Capable of avoiding spring traps, they still remain vulnerable to Infero Towers.

    Statistics:
    • Housing Space: 10
    • Training Time: 12 Minutes
    • Movement Speed: 14
    • Attack Speed: 0.33s
    • Attack Type: Ranged (7 Tiles), Single Target, Ground Only
    • Troop Type: Ground
    • Favourite Target: Any
    • Maximum Level: 3
    • Barracks Level Required: 11 (Available at TH9)

    Level 1:
    Hitpoints: 375
    DPS: 110
    Training Cost: 7,000 Elixir

    Level 2:
    Hitpoints: 450
    DPS: 140
    Training Cost: 8,500 Elixir

    Level 3:
    Hitpoints: 550
    DPS: 180
    Training Cost: 10,000 Elixir

    Trivia Section:

    • The Ballista takes 2x as much damage from Inferno Towers because they are made of wood.
    • When the Ballista dies, it spawns 2 skeletons.
    • Although they can trigger spring traps, they will not be affected by them.

Thanks for taking your time to read this, I honestly appreciate it. If you have any questions that are not answered by the Trivia Section, feel free to ask me. When replying, please give constructive feedback. If you think it is too OP/UP, tell me why then maybe I could alter the statistics accordingly.

Edit: Sorry, this should be in the New Troops/Spells Sub-Forum.

Quite a few issues I see here.

Housing space is a bit low. Actually, I believe anything over 15 housing space is immune to the spring trap, so probably just adjust the stats and make it take at least 16 housing space. (I'm in favor of something that isn't a multiple of 5, so maybe 18, or how about 27? At 27, you could fit one of these and a valkyrie in a maxed clan castle!)

I think the firing rate is way too fast, considering the high DPS. These would mow down low level archers and barbarians from a clan castle, whereas I would picture a ballista being vulnerable to being rushed by ground troops. If someone drops one of these next to a clan castle and 30 archers pop out, this thing would mow them down almost as fast as they come out, so it would take the whole contingent out. I think the firing rate needs to be at least 1s per shot.

Otherwise, it would make a very nice "siege engine" with the long range.

The range is the real issue though. The trick with the range is that 7 is shorter than the range of a cannon or archer tower, but it's long enough that a ballista could target a building that has a cannon directly behind it, and the cannon wouldn't be able to fight back. Cannon has a range of 9, so the only building a cannon could protect is the builder hut. An archer tower would be able to protect any 3x3 building, but only if there isn't a wall in between. This just royally screws base layouts that rely on point defenses on the perimeter.

I think a range of 6 is as high as possible without completely unbalancing the game. Even that might be too high. How about 5.5, which is 2 more than the archer? Even the archer queen only has a range of 5.

Edit: Regarding the housing space, this can be anywhere from 16 up to about 30. On the low end of that range, a TH10 could hold 15 of these plus 2 more in the clan castle. At the high end, a TH10 could hold 8 of these, plus 1 more in the clan castle. The lower the housing space, the lower the stats should be, and the lower the range. For example, if the range is 6, I think 24-30 housing space is a must. If the range is 5.5, then maybe 20-27 housing space, and if the range is 5 (same as archer queen), then 16-24, something like that. Personally I think a range of 6 is too much, but it could be doable if the DPS and health are right (and slower movement speed). I don't know enough about the targeting system to know the practical difference between a range of 5.5 and a range of 6, but I'm sure Supercell can easily tell us if either of these is too long to be balanced.
