Seems the most reasonable explanation. Probably expected the CII bonus 50k/50k/200
Maybe he was just being nice and gave you a shield. I've done the same before.

Also possible you sniped him, so the favor was returned.
I did snipe him actually so that definitely is possible

With that army he must be looking for 200k /200k /1k min of loot.
I m a th9 and I run with 16 giants rest barch. If I get a loot like that it's a instant next.
