He never was near the ball. He made 3 steps and had control of the ball. The process of a catch was done when he made forward progress while maintaining control. He made a football move to get to the end zone. That was a catch and even packer fans, happy they won, admitting that it should have been ruled a catch!
The rule would be applicable had he only had a foot down. However, he not only had both but he took an additional step. He was no longer falling from the catch but falling after making forward progress!

I don't think shields jarred it loose. But Dez did not complete the process of the catch all the way to the ground. it was jarred loose as he hit and then he snatched it back before coming to rest.
Don't get me wrong, I badly wanted a Cowboy win. I was so bummed when I saw the replay and realized that the review was going to overturn the call when it came back. I wanted very much to believe otherwise. But I couldn't.
Cowboys had a great season and lets hope they can build on this next year to be a rising team.

He had control of the ball. He not only had two feet down, he took another step. He transitioned from receiver and completed the "process" when he took his 3rd step of forward progress. He then became a ball carrier who tried to extend his body and ball to make a "football move" to break the plain. Both knees were down, elbow was down and his left forearm was down. Downed by contact on the 1 yard line. Ground cant cause a fumble, so the play was dead.
No video evidence showed conclusive evidence the ball hit the ground. Watch the replay closely. Unless you have X-ray vision to see past dez for arms, you cant see the ball touch grass. Without irrefutable evidence, they shouldn't have overturned even if by gods eye it did hit dirt!
Huh? Yes the video showed it hitting the ground. That was what I was bummed about when I saw it.
I have the game in my Tivo so I will check again for those 2 steps. I thought I saw him turn still in the air and stretch it toward the goal line which cost him when he then hit the ground. I had reflected that had he not tried stretching for the TD, just brought it in to settle for falling on the one yard line he would have held it.
