It would be nice if we could upgrade builders in the research lab. Use gems to upgrade them to say, level 5. Each level would give all builders a speed increase. For instance, upgrading to a level 2 builder would cost 100 gems and boost their speed by 10%. Upgrading to level 5 builders would cost 5000 gems and boost their speed 50%. So, upgrading from level 1 to level 5 would ultimately cost 15,000 gems.
Would this his give an unfair advantage? Not really. Some of the "top" players used a ton of gems to finish upgrades to get to where they are at. Would it make the game dull? Perhaps...but the money you would make from it would also allow you (Supercell) to develop new content to keep things interesting.
