Supercell must be able to track disconnects on their end, so it seems like it would be pretty simple to identify players that disconnect repeatedly during war, and never during farm raids.

If they just started dropping two week bans on players left and right that they know are guilty, I'm guessing word would get out pretty quickly that it's risky to break the rules...

Okay, that's a bit suspicious. But ghosting doesn't work anymore, so it must be pure luck

There is something worst than ghosting and it doesn't cause disconnects. I do no think supercell could track that....

See the part where it says 'almost completely hinders the ability to exploit'...

    almost

    [awl-mohst, awl-mohst]

adverb 1. very nearly; all but:

    Supercell ALMOST fixed the issue...

According to a message from SC (regarding another matter) It is impossible for them to disband clans in-game. They can only ban players.

Formerly wasn't it possible to see when players began an attack, with the clashing swords animation? Then see it be quickly canceled?
I think some preventative action in handing out significant bans to players doing this, as well as informing players of it in-game would do a lot for the situation. If I was in a war clan and cared enough about wars to ♥♥♥♥♥, At the risk of a week or two long ban I would definitely choose the straight road so as not to hurt the clan by my absence. The only bunnying my clan has seen has come from non-English speaking clans, funnily enough. We've never been hit by an auto-raider from an english clan either to my knowledge.

They did fix the 'Airplane mode' trick. That was the one where you would see the crossing swords real quick and then they disappear. The software bails the attack as soon as it senses the disconnect, airplane mode or otherwise s you can't continue to play it through on your device.

But what's still there are the third party emulators that grab the data then carry the attack out in the emulator completely separate from the servers. That is not SC software at all so they can't very will put in a fix to it. All they can do is catch these guys. Help them, keep reporting. Its all we can do to fight this so we should do it as much as possible..

This guy makes the best point of the whole thread. Put giant bombs inside your base. Even if someone knows where they are, it makes the whole attack harder to plan for your opponent.

    Good to hear.

And I any event, regardless of what each of us thinks of the quality of follow up, its still true that more is likely to happen if its reported than if its not reported.

Hog traps work better if set up inside the base. More likely to have the hogs wander into them. Put them between 2 defenses and its almost guaranteed.
