No worries, you don't see the negative aspect to one of your ideas until someone mentions it, that's natural.
It invades privacy because some players want to remain offline. My clan's clan leader loves to do this and pounce on me when I talk about him negatively.... Some players might want to remain "offline" while they play because they want to avoid donating bcause people have been pressuring him/her too much. Or maybe a member is being bullied and pretends to stay offline do he/she can play and stay away from the bullies (not leaving because of some other reason).
These are just examples, but the online indicator could be a privacy issue
Another fault of this idea is how much more lag will be produced if the game has to check if you are online every few seconds.
