*Blush* haha I don't think you shouldn't worry about price for wars, if it's too much for you simply don't war, that's why they have farmer clans or "Reqest & Leave" clans xD

Elixir argument:
1) Wars are more important then elixir IMO even if you lose, you gain experience.
2) You have excess elixir at TH7 and TH8. Because there are a LOT more defenses to upgrade with gold then elixir. And now that you cannot upgrade walls with elixir you have nowhere to put it, so might as well dump it into wars :P

Nope, I can prove it to you. EVERY TH8 base is 3 starrable with dragons, you just don't put them all in one spot. Set 2 on each corner for like 30 seconds and set the rest on the 3rd corner (farthest from CC) they will just follow the path right to the center. You can even use CC troops or a Barbarian King to guide dragons. I love dragons so I know when and where they will go. It's all about experience.

All of there "Anti Dragon" bases can be 3 starred, no problem. You just need to practice guiding dragons.

Th8 with level 6 AD 3-starred by dragons? Possible but unlikely with decent anti-dragon layout. Have not seen it in war for a couple months now, at least against my base anyhow since my AD reached level 6.

Practice more. It's actually not that hard. I can 3 star TH8s with 1 lv6 and 2 lv5 air defenses with my lv2 dragons and TH7 mini account (lv6 loons in CC). When my main was TH8, I'd 3 star TH8s on the reg, unless I played it wrong.

This strategy can get a 3 star on th7s and below. However, 2 stars on th8s and th9s doesn't make it viable for them to use it.

I've 3 stared max th 8 bases with lvl 6 barch and lvl 5 barb king and lvl 5 queenwith (lvl8 walls real max) only a rage and a heal and he was annihilated.... this strategy will work it might be more effective than a th8 gowipe cuz it has a lot more dps but at th9 its a bit had but certainly doable.

Yep, I have 1 lvl 6 AD and 2 lvl 5 (one is going to 6 atm) and I got attacked with mass level 3 drags (11 of them) and only got 2 starred :D
Drags are pretty hard to 3 star with when you're against TH 8's with good AD's.

TH 7's are guaranteed 3 stars, and town hall 8's and 9's and guaranteed 2 stars.
You know, 4 stars in a clan war isn't so bad when you're a town hall 8. Especially when you save a mother ton of elixir and take down those TH 8's and 9's with high AD's, since you don't need to worry about AD's in this strat.

Oh please don't promote the use of giants and wiz. Dragons are by far the best troops for cw in th7. At th8 it's drags in the begining and hogs at the end. At th9 it's hogs then hogs/loons/gowiwi/holo/golo/etc/etc at th10 it's about the same as the end of th9.

giants and wiz is so unpredictable it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ed.
